| BASKETBALL March 21st, 1939 At 1:15 the girls and boys of the Parrsboro High School held a meeting in the Grade XII class room to discuss the possibility of forming some school basketball teams to play against one another. Early this winter, basketball practice was started, but due to the success of the Parrsboro hockey team, the basketball attendance kept falling off, until it stopped altogether. The pupils cannot be blamed for this, because they had such fellow students as Lloyd "Yawnie" Willigar, and Jerry Morse on the forward line, and Clyde "Younger" Harrington between the pipes for the Parrsboro hockey team. Now that skating and hockey are finished, we think that we can get a large turnout at these practices. The girls had a practice on Thursday night under the supervision of Mr. Allen. There was not a very large number present, due to the fact that there were some ill with colds. There are some girls who stood out form the rest, and who, in time, will make good players. The boys will hold their practices on Tuesday nights, and it is expected that there will be at least two teams formed, and perhaps three. There are some boys who have already had some experience, and who played for the High School in the town league last season, and others who are anxious to learn to play, and will make good players with some experience. Clyde Harrington, Grade X TRACK With signs of spring in the air, much interest has been aroused by some of our boys in holding a Cumberland County Track Meet in May. Last fall, some our students gained a little experience in the line of track. A little harder training than that of last fall may develop a winning combination among our pupils. If such a track meet should take place, invitations would be forwarded to Springhill, Oxford, River Hebert, Joggins, and Advocate High Schools. Within the next few weeks, further steps will be taken for the possible forthcoming event. Garnet McDade, Grade X |
